Ceramic Coating for SUVs: Protect Your Investment

By Zane Phelps · April 28, 2026 · 4 min read

Your SUV is probably one of the most expensive things you own outside of your house. It hauls your kids, your gear, your groceries, and takes a beating from the Georgia sun, road grime, and bird droppings every single day. A ceramic coating on your SUV isn't a luxury — it's the smartest protective investment you can make for a vehicle you're likely keeping for years. At Zane's Detailing, I've coated everything from three-row family haulers to lifted trucks across Cumming, Alpharetta, Suwanee, and the surrounding North Atlanta area, and the results speak for themselves: 36 five-star Google reviews and customers who come back when they buy their next vehicle.

Why SUVs Need Ceramic Coating More Than Most Vehicles

SUVs sit higher off the ground, which sounds like a perk until you realize that means more surface area exposed to highway debris, more hood and roof getting cooked by direct UV rays, and more panel real estate for brake dust, bug splatter, and water spots to collect. The average SUV in North Georgia is also driven hard — school pickups, weekend lake trips up near Dahlonega or Gainesville, Costco runs, all of it. The paint takes constant abuse.

Factory paint on most modern vehicles is thinner than it used to be. It scratches easier, fades faster under UV exposure, and without protection it starts looking dull within a couple of years. Ceramic coating creates a semi-permanent glass-like layer over your clear coat that repels water, resists light scratches, blocks UV oxidation, and makes the surface dramatically easier to keep clean. Once it's on, washing your SUV takes half the time and effort it did before.

The Three Ceramic Coating Options I Offer for SUVs

Every SUV is different, and so is every owner's budget and how long they plan to keep the vehicle. Here's exactly what I offer:

1-Year Graphene Coating — $399 for SUVs

This uses Adams Graphene Ceramic Coating and is the right call if you want solid protection without a large upfront investment, or if you're not sure how long you're keeping the vehicle. Graphene-infused coatings offer excellent water behavior, good scratch resistance, and strong UV protection. At $399 for an SUV, it's one of the better values in detailing — and it lasts a full year with proper maintenance.

2-Year Ceramic Coating — $699 for SUVs

This is my most popular package for SUV owners. It uses Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light as the base coat — a professional-grade ceramic that bonds hard to the clear coat — topped with Gtechniq EXOv4 as a sacrificial top layer that adds slickness and makes the coating easier to maintain. At $699, you're getting a product stack that most independent detailers in this area don't even carry. The two-year protection is real, not a marketing number.

5-Year Ceramic Coating — $949 for SUVs

This is the flagship. Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra is a dual-layer professional ceramic that creates one of the hardest, most durable coating surfaces available outside of a body shop setting. If you just bought a new SUV, if you're financing it long-term, or if you simply want the best protection money can buy — this is it. At $949 for an SUV, you're protecting a $40,000-plus vehicle with a coating that's built to last five years.

What the Process Actually Looks Like

Before any ceramic coating goes on, the paint has to be properly prepped. That means a thorough wash, clay bar decontamination to pull embedded iron and road fallout out of the paint, and a paint correction step if needed to address swirl marks and light scratches. Coating over dirty or scratched paint just locks the problems in — I don't cut corners on prep.

Once the surface is ready, the coating is applied panel by panel, leveled, and allowed to cure. The whole process for an SUV typically takes most of a day. Because I'm fully mobile, I do all of this in your driveway in Cumming, Alpharetta, Suwanee, Buford, Dawsonville, or wherever you're located in the area. You don't drop your vehicle off anywhere. You don't arrange a ride. I come to you, do the work, and you're driving a protected vehicle by that evening.

No Tax, Transparent Pricing, Easy Booking

Car detailing in Georgia is not subject to sales tax, so the price you see is the price you pay — $399, $699, or $949 for an SUV depending on the package. I take a $50 deposit to lock in your appointment, with the remainder due when the job is complete.

If you're in the Cumming, GA area or anywhere across North Atlanta and you're ready to stop watching your SUV's paint fade and scratch season after season, let's talk.
